And Then What?
In June of last year, I received an unexpected gift.
I graduated from high school in 1998.
Growing up, my dad’s job required our family to move around a bit.
I had the gift of going to two different high schools: one in Michigan and one in California.
As a result, I didn’t really stay in touch with anyone from high school.
Until last June…
…when John Stephenson—the Frick to my Frack in California—reached out to me.
And what a gift it’s been.
John and I have been meeting monthly over Zoom, and I grow every time through our powerful conversations.
By trade, John is a lawyer.
To me, he’s one of the best coaches I have ever encountered.
About a month ago, we had the opportunity to meet-up in person for the first time in 27 years—in Las Vegas of all places.
Yes, Robin Kellogg, Las Vegas—and this time included an EDM show.
John Stephenson is something else!
Last week, I put some thoughts to paper and sent out a newsletter and published a blog outlining the following proof:
Joy —> Consistency —> Skill Acquisition + Fitness ∴ Success
John being John sent me the following message:
“Excellent.
And once you achieve success, then what?
Perhaps you might be willing to write a post about that.”
You see, a coach ask the right questions.
A coach gets you to go inside and search for the answers.
A coach gets you to take action.
Upon much reflection, here’s what I came up with:
Success isn’t an end.
Success isn’t a goal.
Success is simply part of the process.
And because success is so fun, it just creates more drive to find joy.
I guess, in a sense, it’s all a continuous learning loop.
And maybe, if I may be so bold, the whole purpose of the human experience.
To learn.
And to grow.
And through it all, discover so many wonderful gems—and so much expanding joy.
Onward.
