A Sign to Give You Confidence
I once had a coach say, “Reed, the Universe pays attention.”
This was years ago and it’s stuck with me.
The things we do—although they may feel like it—do not go unrecognized.
Day after day we can show up and question our efforts.
Week after week we can do the work and wonder the impact.
Month after month we can engage and see no return.
Maybe we’re looking in the wrong place.
On the 4th of July I was standing on a lawn throwing the baseball with my 5-year-old son.
I looked up and a huge pelican flew directly over my head.
My son and I both exclaimed, “Wow! Did you see that!?!”
A sign to give you confidence.
The curious, spiritual cat in me did a little investigating.
A pelican flying directly over your head is considered a powerful sign of endurance, hope, and new beginnings.
It is a sign to trust in your ability to “ride the waves” of difficult situations—abundance and support are on the horizon.
A pelican flying directly over indicates that you are entering a period of renewal, learning to navigate your emotions with grace, and that upcoming obstacles can be successfully overcome.
Maybe it’s simply a coincidence.
Maybe something greater.
Later that day I was driving with my 3-year-old son.
In the distance, I could see a dark storm cloud and the beginnings of a rainbow.
My 3-year-old had never seen one.
So, I pulled over the car and got him out: “See it, Dada!”
We kept driving and things started to get incredible.
“Whoa, it’s two full rainbows—this is amazing, Henry!”
We stopped three or four times.
My curiosity continued.
A sign to give you confidence.
A double rainbow symbolizes transformation, good fortune, and new beginnings.
Across many traditions, a double rainbow is interpreted as an assurance that after a storm, a period of brighter days and personal renewal is on the horizon.
Two rainbows: hope.
Two powerful signs in one day.
Hey, maybe it’s just a coincidence.
Maybe something greater.
The next day, while out for a drive again with my 3-year-old so that he could take a nap, another sighting.
Two bald eagles flying across the road I’m driving on.
As I’ve aged, my experiences of awe come less frequently.
Driving on that road, I was in awe.
And triply curious.
A sign to give you confidence.
The significance?
Divine protection for your future and a reminder to rise above the current storm with clarity.
A threshold moment: moving from one era of your life to another.
A symbolic representation of action, progress, and a transition toward stability, clarity, and moving forward.
Perhaps just another coincidence.
Maybe something greater.
“Reed, the Universe pays attention.”
I’ve been putting in a lot of inner and outer effort, engagement, and work.
And I’m paying attention—and moving forward with confidence.
I guess I’ll end with this:
Believe—even if there’s nothing.
It’s better, in my opinion, than the alternative: not believing and there being something.
And, pick one: God. A Higher Power. The Universe.
When we choose one to believe in, the magic begins to happen.
And maybe we just need to look in different place where those little signs exist that give you confidence to move...
…Onward.
